The Scottish Highlands and especially the Glencoe area have an eventful history. Some historic sites can still be visited and offer an opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of Scotland.

Castle Stalker enjoys has a majestic position on Loch Linnhe and is one of those historical locations where you can feel the past. Castle Stalker is entirely authentic and one of the best-preserved medieval tower-houses surviving in western Scotland. It is part of the Lynn of Lorn National Scenic Area.

Alternatively, visit Inveraray Castle (about 1.5 hours from Glencoe) for a great day out. This trip can be combined with a visit to Inveraray Jail to experience a 19th century prison, which is a popular family day trip.

Another historical location worth a visit is Loch Shiel. Discover the dramatic history of the 1745 Jacobite Rising at the spectacular Glenfinnan Monument, which is at the head of Loch Shiel. It marks the position where Prince Charles Edward Stuart raised his standard and began the Rising. Interest in this era has experienced a resurgence following the popular Outlander books and series.
